My work explores the relationship between American perfectionism, the desire to fit in and be accepted, and individuality. I explore the links between authenticity and vulnerability in who we are and how we present ourselves to the world.
Ever since I was a child I have been fascinated by the story of self, how we shape our realities by the stories we tell ourselves. How we are often distracted by the desire to be accepted – limiting or hiding ourselves – rather than celebrating the differences that make us unique and beautiful. How human and ephemeral the desire to be liked, wanted, and yet how muddled and plastic our attempts become when they are lacking honesty and truth.
